How is chin implant surgery (mentoplasty) performed, and where are incisions placed?

#

Chin implant surgery is performed through either a concealed intraoral incision inside the lower lip or a tiny discreet incision beneath the chin crease.

Clinical Pathology & Literature Context

Intraoral approach: A small 1.5 cm incision is made in the lower labial sulcus; the implant is placed precisely beneath the periosteum over the anterior mandibular symphysis and secured with titanium micro-screws or pocket anchoring, leaving zero external scar. Submental approach: A 1.5 to 2 cm incision is hidden in the natural submental skin crease under the chin; this allows direct visualization and is ideal when combined with submental liposuction.

Surgical & Post-Operative Recovery Protocol

The procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes under local anesthesia with sedation, with sutures dissolving or removed within 7 days.
