Why is a neck lift almost always combined with a facelift?

#

The face and neck form a continuous anatomical unit; rejuvenating the jawline without addressing neck bands and submental laxity creates an incongruous, unnatural appearance.

Clinical Pathology & Literature Context

The platysma muscle in the neck extends directly into the SMAS of the face. In full facial rejuvenation, the surgeon performs a platysmaplasty through a tiny submental nick, suturing the separated vertical edges of the platysma muscle together (corset platysmaplasty) and removing subplatysmal fat. This restores a sharp, youthful 90-degree angle between the jaw and the neck.

Surgical & Post-Operative Recovery Protocol

Combined face and neck lifting ensures complete aesthetic continuity from cheekbone to collarbone.
