Does buccal fat removal cause cheek sagging or skin droopiness?
#No, when performed on appropriate candidates with healthy skin tone, removing the deep buccal pad does not cause cheek sagging or skin droopiness.
The buccal fat pad resides deep to the SMAS and buccinator muscle; it does not support the overlying cutaneous envelope. Facial support is maintained by retaining ligaments and the zygomaticus muscle complex. Removing deep volume simply allows the skin to drape more closely over the natural facial contours.
Surgeons assess skin pinch retraction prior to surgery to ensure elasticity is completely sufficient.
