Will breast augmentation surgery affect nipple sensation or my ability to breastfeed?

#

Nipple sensation and breastfeeding capability are fully preserved in the vast majority (over 95%) of patients undergoing inframammary dual-plane augmentation.

Clinical Pathology & Literature Context

The primary sensory innervation of the nipple-areolar complex is supplied by the lateral cutaneous branch of the 4th intercostal nerve, which travels along the lateral chest wall. By utilizing an inframammary incision and subpectoral dissection, the glandular tissue and sensory nerve pathways remain entirely undisturbed. Milk ducts and lobules are not transected, allowing normal lactation in future pregnancies.

Surgical & Post-Operative Recovery Protocol

Temporary numbness or hypersensitivity in the first few weeks is normal and resolves as tissue inflammation subsides.
