What are the risks of earlobe repair, and what is the risk of keloids?
#Risks are minimal (under 2%), including minor infection, suture reaction, subtle scar thickening, or recurrence from premature heavy ear piercing.
True keloids occur predominantly in patients with a recognized genetic predisposition. During consultation, the surgeon examines the patient’s prior surgical or trauma scars. If a patient is prone to hypertrophic scarring, the surgeon may recommend silicone gel application or micro-injections of triamcinolone during the healing phase.
Meticulous surgical technique ensures clean, uncomplicated primary healing.
