Will a breast lift affect nipple sensation or my ability to breastfeed in the future?

#

In the vast majority of cases (over 90% to 95%), nipple sensation and future breastfeeding function are successfully preserved.

Clinical Pathology & Literature Context

Plastic surgeons preserve sensation and blood supply by maintaining the nipple on a robust, vascularized internal soft-tissue pedicle (superior, superomedial, or inferior pedicle) rather than free nipple grafting. This protects the 4th lateral intercostal sensory nerve and maintains lactiferous duct continuity to the nipple pores.

Surgical & Post-Operative Recovery Protocol

Temporary hypesthesia (numbness) or tingling is normal after surgery and resolves steadily over 3 to 6 months.
